Developmental History of Virology Analogy

There is something of an analogue to be made between virology and the development of Elegant Reasonism. The epicenter of comparison between the two histories revolve around the notion that sometimes there are those things which we can not see influence significantly the realm in which we exist.

Thought Constraints and Logic Traps

Even if you know the solution do this because the solution is not the point. On some clean surface draw three equidistant rows of three equidistant dots. Drawing a line from 9 through 5 to 1, then 1 straight down far enough for you to then bisect 8 and 6 to a point allowing you to then connect 3, 2 and finally 1. So the question then becomes what did you have to do in order to accomplish the solution? Did you struggle or did you get the solution the very first time you tried it, even if you did it a long time ago? The real question here is: what constrained your problem solving thinking?  Was it what you did see or what you did not see which wound up being the constraint?

Systems Engineering precepts, practices, and processes note that something can be logically correct yet remain physically different. Susanne K Langer taught us that mistaking abstractions for actual reality is a fatal epistemological error. Something we now call Langer Epistemology Errors (LEEs) to honor the body of her work. The little puzzle above can most effectively be solved when we get beyond the points we applied to that surface. Lance’s closing point in that short video is very salient for all professional scientists and engineers. Motivational speakers, business leaders, and others will warn you about allowing successes to blind you to the path forward precluding any ability to grow beyond those accomplishments. Albert Einstein employed the use of thought experiments to think virtually about solutions to problems. He stated he used to sit for hours in his study just thinking. Once asked if he was smarter than others, responded: no but I think longer about solving problems. He never gave up. He was also famous for stating: We can not solve problems using the same thinking we used when we created them. He was more correct than he ever realized. What Albert Einstein created with his papers and the body of his work was absolutely 100% logically correct and therein lay the strategic clue to gaining the precipice of unification. Spacetime, logically correct though it may be, is not the answer. Neither is the answer tweaking this or that facet of our perceptions. Empiricism depends on our physiological senses, but humans can not directly sense all that is real. Those distinctions are the differences between, for example, Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). The former works just fine for pilots on nice sunny days. Reality demands that sometimes we must go when the weather is inhospitable. To go when and where we can not see and under those circumstances you must depend on instrumentality. Furthermore you must know how and why those instruments do what they do because if they are broken in some subtle manner they will not report the truth of a given situation. Something called ‘situational awareness’ is required at all times flying IFR.

The point here is that it is possible to be in a circumstance and have your senses report false information. The trick is knowing which sense or instrument to trust, when, where, why, and how.

So here we are on the precipice of 2022. Civilization has produced marvelous technologies, insights, and capabilities. The majority of folks are content with relating to reality at every day empirical scales, human sized scales.

The operative word on the mug meme above is ‘all’. We would argue that unification has never been about a single discipline of science. Rather it is about connecting the dots between everything real. Once you can describe the unified Universe Bang to Bang, and we did do that, you are then required to demonstrate the relationships between everything else real from one end of the entanglement gradient to the other and that work is underway.

Gaining The Precipice Where Unification was Accomplished

Start where you are most comfortable because everyone’s journey is as individual as they are. White Papers, Presentations, Books, Videos, or just old fashioned reading about new insights, they are all at your finger tips. Elegant Reasonism is simple to the point of elegance, that’s not the hard part. The hard part are your own preconceived ideas just like that dot puzzle and the solution is essentially the same. You have to get beyond the dots you can see in order to recognize the implications of what you can not see. Carl Sagan penned some criteria for scientists which he collectively called his ‘baloney detection kit’. Well, we mode shifted that criteria and interestingly who it points at is inverted and that is something to consider all by itself.

Gaining the precipice of unification took a long time to accomplish, thousands of years to be precise. My effort only took about a decade or so and had the benefit of history to draw from.
