On The Objectivity of Science

Objectivity in science is an attempt to uncover truths about the natural world by eliminating personal biases, emotions, and false beliefs. It is often linked to observation as part of the scientific method. It is thus intimately related to the aim of testability and reproducibility. An epistemology is a philosophy of knowledge. Empiricism is one such epistemology whose source of truth is based on objectivity defined in such a manner. No one, anywhere, should (some might) argue against those observations. Consequently here let’s apply these precepts to the terms themselves philosophically, but with a twist, and then conduct some explorations. This exploration will require the reader to make an effort to understand several major schools of thought, not in their infinite detail but generally at least. What are the philosophical presumptions in these insights? One is that observations are complete, that is to say every possible influence within the frame of reference are discernible (e.g. measurable). When that definition was laid down science had no knowledge of constructs like dark matter, so contemplate your rhetorical answers carefully. Rhetorically, what about simultaneous truths which all agree with experiment? What then usually ensues in science is an attempt to discern which look more natural than others, but then we must ask just how objective of subjective is that discernment. Right?

Objectivity is impossible to achieve in qualitative research because the investigator must place themselves within the research. Said another way: we humans are inside the test tube being described.
Objectivity then is replaced by subjective scrutiny, interpretation, and massive detail for later analysis.

Elegant Reasonism demands application of integrity and therefore definitions must adhere to established taxonomies, but also acknowledge points of view that are outside that framework but statistically weighted in such a way as they may be measured relative to metrics determined for a given investigation. For example, if someone says “Philosophical positions include: realism, anti-realism, Constructivism, etc.”, those “positions” represent epistemologies and the source of truth for each is different. That alone is worthy of note in a larger sense because they are not simple positions and they are highly systemic in terms of implications and ramifications. Consequenlty making such statements is telling of the rigor employed by that individual. Why Baldrige Matters Here

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recognizes U.S. organizations in the business, health care, education, and nonprofit sectors for performance excellence. The Baldrige Award is the highest formal recognition of the performance excellence of both public and private U.S. The US National Performance Excellance Program (NPEP) must permeate everything an organization does. Einstein once said “its not that smart people don’t make mistakes, because they do, it’s what happens after the mistake is made that matters.” The design point for our nework presence here is to create landing pages for major concept pilars and do that only once. To the degree we depart from that, to us, constitutes a sigma defect and at some point we will fix it. During his tenure in corporate America our CEO was part of a team which earned a bronze level Baldrige Award back in the 1980’s, the point being that this is not new territory for us. It is about recursive quality management systems (QMS) standards and the things and actions required to instantiate them.

Elegant Reasonism is defined as a utility process employing a technological framework supporting an epistemology which seeks truth as a function of the unified Universe as a philosophical preciate priority consideration entering science and which produced the first fully compliant Encapsulated Interpretative Model (EIM) closing to unification: The Emergence Model. Consequently Elegant Reasonism constitutes three constructs which here we consider a holistic whole: a process, a framework, and an epistemology and together the truth they strive for is a function of the unified Universe. Any critical philosophical review will find that what distinguishes one epistemology from another is the source of truth it promulgates and herein it is the unified Universe grounding everything Elegant Reasonism represents.

Rhetorically we ask if science can not discern something where does one turn? The answer must drive responsible investigators back into the bowels of philosophy. Also rhetorically we ask what must we humans all do in order to avoid commission of Langer Epistemology Errors (LEEs)? Our answer to all of these questions is: embrace Elegant Reasonism. We ask that question somewhat tongue-in-cheek, because in the end we also argue that Elegant Reasonism is science based and consequently represents a new opportunity to improve the scientific method relative to and respective of the unified Universe.

There are very real ramifications of all this but that is another story. Here we are concerned with ‘objectivity’ and the point of everything in this article to this point asks ‘relative to what?’ The answer must necessarily be the source of epistemological truth and that’s why the discussion about the various epistemologies matters. Most scientists will likely be able to espouse for long periods of times all the virtues of Empiricism, and they would not be wrong to do so. Empiricism has been the basis of science for hundreds of years. There is a supervienent insight here and ultimately it is the reason that Elegant Reasonism is, here, considered a superset epistemology exactly because its source of truth is inclusive of all other epistemologies, including Empiricism. Unification, Elegant Reasonism‘s source of truth, demands no less. We didn’t decide that, the unified Universe required it of us and there is a distinction to be made there. Unification, as a defined concept, requires credible reintegration or manifestation of everything real. That statement is independent of location anywhere, and by anywhere we mean anywhere in the unified Universe. There is a great deal more to unpack in all of that than we have real estate here to illuminate, but those discussions and contemplations are reflected in our original systems review notes which are immediately available for your considered review right now. It is our considered opinion that any critical review, devoting the same levels of energy and effort we did to those contemplations will ultimately come to the same conclusions we did and for all the same reasons.

Here we argue that objectivity is a function of epistemologically derived source of truth.

Elegant Reasonism is a superset epistemology in as much as it statistically integrates all other epistemologies relative to and respective of the unified Universe.

For objectivity reasons, Elegant Reasonism requires a plurality of EIMs employed in all investigations and at least one must close to unification.

Discipline

Contemplating then what it takes to represent ‘all that is’ requires something of a large tapestry which we obviously can not physically place on a table because it would necessarily require more atoms than are in the material used to make that characterization. Modeling Reality, Part 01 and Modeling Reality Part 02, here suggest a high requirement for encapsulation of modeling and Elegant Reasonism embraced that requirement in its Rules for the purposes of investigation and communications integrity. For the purposes of communications between us mere mortals we must represent a reflection of what is necessary, but that requires cognitive thought in order to accomplish.

Tapestry Weaving Implications

Shifting to an epistemology which sources truth as a function of the unified Universe has, what was to us, a completely unintended ramification. We had never contemplated this before. It is said in cognitive psyhcology and the neurological sciences that neurons that fire together, wire together. Neurological sciences call that neural plasticity and it is centrally responsible for learning. If we did not have that, no creature with a brain would ever learn anything. That all by itself has some interesting implications relative to educational curricula. The biological evolution in the Sol System has created biology connecting physiological sensors across a Central Nervous System (CNS) to brains which instantly manifest abstractions, consistent with Susanne K Langer‘s body of work, in order to relate to the realm in which we all exist. Neural plasticity is what enabled humanity to crawl out of the swamps, but also sets the stage for commission of LEEs. Here, is where all this gets very interesting because over the last 2,000 years or so, humanity has conducted intentional education in order our progeny not make the same mistakes our parents made. We can describe the systemic nature of this relative to the unified Universe via the cogent description of M5 and the action princple; which ironically leads to a discussion of neuron action potentials responsible for sending signals to the brain. What is interesting about all this comes when we realize that intentionally conducting education which initiates neurons firing in a manner increasing cognitive understaning of the unified Universe wires those neurological networks into alignment with the unified Universe. We call that process Neural Network Reconfiguration by Programming (NNRP). NNRP seeks truth as a function of the unified Universe. In essence it is a way for the unified Universe to intrinsically know itself, and that is a powerful concept.

Think about conversational skills, intrinsically understanding truth as a function of the unified Universe and what vision such individuals will wield. The realms they will create are certainly to be wondrous.

Executive Summary

Consequently we must ask: Is science objective in the end if ultimately it is based on abstractions created by humans? Our answer is that it is if we make it so. We would argue that requires science to embrace Elegant Reasonism in order to not fall prey to LEEs Empiricism Trap. Today science is empirically based and empiricism intrinsically is mired in issues tied to human physiology. World views created by neurons that have fired due to logically correct circumstances must conduct paradigm shifts that will allow realignment in context of the unified Universe and that is the responsibility of the individual, not the larger groups though such groups may begin to pressure individuals to “get on that task with haste”. NNRP will hasten the inevitable. Objectivity will mode shift from an empirical base to an Elegant Reasonism basis. We need only point out empiricism’s failure to recognize unification over the last one hundred years to make the case for Elegant Reasonism. Global enterprise should immediately embrace Elegant Reasonism because In Unification’s Wake, Part 05: Business Impact will not be kind to any apathetic delay and if executive management does not move to protect shareholder value, they won’t last long.

Objectivity is a function of the context made manifest by the epistemology employed. In the case of Elegant Reasonism based epistemology, where truth is a function of the unified Universe, civilization will increasingly become populated by individuals who intrinsically, and objectively, recognize and engage the unified Universe.

To the extent that context is derived from the unified Universe then there will likely be cogent affinity with reality. We leave to your imagination how civilization might turn out when it is based on other truths. The free markets across the Earth are about to be schooled on these points in most harsh manner imaginable. Those who grasp these principles will survive.
